ABOUT HEATHER

HEY EVERYONE!! HERE’S A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON ME:

I was born and raised in El Campo, TX, a map dot just south of Houston. My second home is in Austin, where I attended college. I feel like I can relate with the lifestyle of the capitol city, and that attitude of freedom is reflected in much of my work.

I was introduced to painting during my studies at Texas State University, where I earned a BA in Communication Design and a Minor in Mass Communication. While art was something I vaguely knew I wanted to focus on, my direction was unclear. I originally pursued graphic design, but found my true passion in an elective Watercolors class. I was captured by the medium on the first day. The way the paint moved along the paper was so fluid and beautiful – I saw so much of myself within that freedom of motion and possibility.

Now acrylic and watercolor paint are the two most predominant mediums in my work, and in the Unbound series I used acrylic, watercolor, watercolor pencils, hard and soft pastels, ink, modeling paste, and other varied materials to create most of the textures.

My current style of painting brings together bold colors and abstract forms. I rarely have a specific topic in mind when creating these pieces – rather I want those who view my work to feel the intended vibrancy and fluidity, but let the individuals decide on mood and subject matter for themselves.

I invite you to take a look at my work and see for yourself. Cheers!

I’ve been largely inspired by the environmental efforts and visual experiences within National Geographic, and like them, my goals as an artist are constantly being shaped by our planet.

The idea of standing behind nature and building her beauty is irresistible, and the focus of my work is to share my soul with others, and hopefully inspire others to love our earth as much as I do.
